Nix’s Mate Boston

November 25th, 2011, 03:11:35 Bobby

Acrossed from Rowe’s Wharf in the Financial District’s Hilton Hotel, Nix’s Mate is a laid back upscale lounge that has been open since 2012. With an attractive crowd of mostly late 20 and 30 somethings inhabiting this place, the decor is simple yet classy. White and light finished wood is the theme throughout, whether it be the floors, bar or back bar. This is a hotel restaurant by day but transforms after dinner on the weekends into a lively nightspot.

The Brahmin Boston

November 25th, 2011, 03:11:49 Bobby

In the US, the term Brahmin has been applied to the old, wealthy New England families of British Protestant origin that were influential in the development and leadership of science, arts, culture, politics, trade, and academia. I think the name fits the venue well. I think the name fits this venue just right.

Storyville Boston

May 18th, 2011, 06:05:34 Bobby

Occupying the space that was once Saint, Storyville Boston is one of Boston’s newest nightlife additions (Oct. 2011) and is really setting the standard for Boston nightlife which seems to be trending a little bit away from the college clubs and towards upscale nightlife with a far more sophisticated clientele looking for something more.

Drink Boston

May 18th, 2011, 05:05:04 Bobby

Drink has a strong modern atmosphere with a loud positive vibe and sophisticated feel. I love the exposed brick with the light finished wood, the low hanging lights and the big square bar. Drink Boston has a very simple and elegant feel to it.

Clerys Boston is a nice bar with an inviting atmosphere located on the edge of the South End and Back Bay neighborhoods of Boston. It mostly attracts a crowd of young professionals in their mid to late 20s.

6B Lounge

May 7th, 2011, 06:05:22 Lito

There’s always something happening for all kinds of people at 6B. The wide range of industry nights attract a variety of people who appreciate the company of good friends. It’s a great combination of a classy place with a modern day feel. The price range isn’t outrageous as most people would expect from a nicer place nestled in between Beacon Hill and the Downtown area. The music is especially good on Friday nights where the biggest crowds gather for 90s night. The weekdays here tend to be a lot more subdued than if you go on weekend night I’ve noticed.

28 Degrees Boston is a sharp, elegant bar/lounge located in the South End that attracts a sophisticated crowd of professionals mostly in their 30s and 40s.

29 Newbury

May 7th, 2011, 06:05:49 Lito

This place certainly gets crowded early being a smaller venue and the ages range from young professionals to established veterans. Be prepared to spend money when you go, just like most upscale restuarant bars in the city, drinks are expensive. Also, Newbury Street and expensive are synonymous. I would highly recommend this place if you want to meet some high class people who certainly can hold a conversation with the best of them.

21st Amendment Boston

May 7th, 2011, 04:05:36 Lito

21st Amendment Boston on the cusp of being a dive bar, definitely has the decor and dingy dive bar feel. They have a good trivia crowd on Sunday but can get packed early. Great place to grab a bite with friends after work. Like most neighborhood bars of it’s kind, there is a wide array of patrons ranging from young professionals to established veterans. 21st Amendment Boston is a bit expensive but well worth it. All in all it’s a small, dark, cramped venue and possibly the only place in Beacon Hill you won’t have cell reception.

Featured Bar: Lolita Cocina

April 10th, 2011, 03:04:59 Bobby

On Dartmouth St, right in between Boylston and Newbury, is one of the hottest new bars in Boston. It’s called Lolita Cocina & Tequila Bar. Lolita has been around for a few months now and just seems to be gaining more steam. I just recently went in there (last weekend) and the place was jumping. […]

Kennedys Midtown

April 8th, 2011, 11:04:00 Bobby

Kennedy’s Midtown is a nice restaurant/Irish pub conveniently located near Downtown Crossing, Beacon Hill, Faneuil Hall, and Boston Commons. The inside has a standard feel as far as the decor and set up go, but it is pretty nice inside, bordering it on being an upscale bar. On a Friday or Saturday night it doesn’t get extremely crowded in there and you are unlikely to find a bunch of early 20s and college students hanging out here but the bar does tend to get comfortably full. Beers on tap were about $5, making it about on par for what most places charge around here and the selection was pretty good.

Telegraph Hill Bar

April 8th, 2011, 11:04:38 Bobby

Take a step into the 20-teens (that’s what I call this decade) and take advantage of Telegraph Hill’s technologically sound venue. They have wi-fi on the inside (which actually really helped me with my cell reception.) Also, if you want to peep the scene down there before you actually get ready to head on over to Telegraph Hill, click the link at the top of the page and check out a live feed of the inside of the bar between 1pm and 12am. Other than being tech savvy, this neighborhood watering hole has a great beer selection, all new everything, reasonable food and drink prices, awesome specials (10 cent tacos on Mondays are you kidding me?!) and in my opinion a friendly staff!

Barracuda Tavern

The Barracuda Tavern is a fried seafood-serving restaurant/bar located in Downtown Boston that attracts a broad crowd of patrons in their late 20s and 30s.

Towne Stove Boston

April 8th, 2011, 11:04:46 Bobby

Everyone knows that adding a silent letter to the end of a regular word equals instant trendiness… and in towne’s case, it worked. Towne was a welcome addition to the Boylston bar scene and can definitely be described as a “see and be seen” location. The bouncers will scrutinize your ID to the point that they’ll even have you doubting whether you’re 21+ before you start to wonder who exactly is inside and slowly become impressed with the level of exclusivity. Once inside, towne has a warm, inviting vibe that makes you just want to be there. The cocktail menu has a ton of really interesting sounding combinations, the food is really good and the diverse clientele keeps it classy. Whether you’re a young professional, high-up exec or a total creeper, if you’re looking for an after-work drink spot or somewhere to start your night off right, definitely go to Towne (no pun intended.)

Met Back Bay

April 8th, 2011, 11:04:15 Bobby

Met Back Bay is a chic restaurant bar but in my opinion not necessarily a pickup place or a very social atmosphere per se. The first time I went ot was a Friday night at 12:30 and there were only a couple people at the bar upstairs and maybe 10-15 downstairs at that bar. I would make use of this place to catch up with old friends or to go and have a drink and maybe talk about something of substance, but not really to meet new people or to get rowdy at all because the atmosphere here is very subdued. Besides that, the place is very nice inside, the drinks aren’t cheap and keep in mind Met Back Bay is only open until 1am.

Battery Park Bar and Lounge

April 8th, 2011, 11:04:55 Bobby

A welcomed new addition to the financial district, Battery Park Bar & Lounge’s name is somewhat deceptive. When I think lounge, I think lounge style seating (plush, comfortable couches, etc.) but there is really just restaurant seating in here. It is really just an upscale sports bar in my opnion. Even though most sports bar will have the sports memorabilia and kitsch all over the place, and this venue does not. The atmosphere and decor are really nice. The bar is sleek and the DJ is usually pretty good. The crowd at Battery Park Bar is usually the financier types starting a little after 5pm and it gets a little younger as it becomes later. Still, more of a professional, upscale group that inhabits this classy, new Boston sports bar.

Post 390

April 8th, 2011, 10:04:00 Bobby

Post 390 is a perfect spot for after work drinks but it’s also good when you’re looking to go out but not get too wild. Post390 has a really good drink menu; the mixed drinks are creative (and strong!) and if you’re looking for something more mainstream they make amazing dirty martinis. I honestly think that even their rail vodka is high quality. I have a soft spot for Post especially because their bartender introduced me to the best beer of all time (Rapscallion – a Belgian white made in western mass) and didn’t throw me out once the second one hit me hard. The only drawback was he served them to us in a goblet so we were the only assholes at the bar drinking out of goblets. The food is amazing also, the waiters are a delight (suggesting that I get my martini EXTRA dirty) and the crowd is always classy. I’ve been there a few times and it’s one of my favorite places for the simple fact that you can go for any occasion – on a date, girl’s night out or with a group – and it’ll be a good time.
